Chipper Hire
Wood Chippers and Wood Shredders are large outdoor pieces of equipment that are designed to make the disposal of wood much easier. Wood chippers aren’t usually found on your average construction site, as they’re more favoured by gardeners, landscapers and tree surgeons (arborists). Garden waste in the UK has a range of regulations which makes it difficult to easily dispose of, which is why wood chipper on your work site can be handy. Shredding wood makes it much easier to be recycled or even reused for another purpose.
What are the differences between a wood chipper and a wood shredder?
Chippers and Shredders are two terms that are thrown around which can be quite confusing if you aren’t aware of the differences between the two. If you’re looking at hiring a wood chipper, you’ll want to know if the chosen model is right for the task at hand.
Wood Shredders
At first glance, the difference between a wood chipper and a wood shredder can be hard to spot. Apart from a slight difference in size, wood shredders aren’t too dissimilar to a chipper. Shredders are usually slightly smaller since they make use of a smaller engine. This makes them better suited for smaller pieces of wood as they won’t normally have the capacity to deal with larger pieces like trunks or thick tree limbs. Shredders will often have adjustable blades which will allow the user to pick how small they want the ejected chunks to be. This is great for smaller projects that are looking to use the wood chunks for something like a garden bed or even to cover walkways.
Smaller wood “shredders” are better suited for smaller worksites or domestic users as they’ll take up less room than your average wood chipper. They are also slightly easier to manage since they’ll usually make use of nylon cutting strings to break down the wood instead of sharp metal blades.
